CES 2018: turn your smartphone into a laptop with the Mirabook

The Mirabook is an empty laptop that uses the smartphone's processor as its engine. It is mainly designed for Samsung and Huawei smartphones.

We had a taste of it at CES 2017 with a prototype, the Mirabook of the Lyon startup Miraxess is now available in final version.

Externally, this machine looks like a traditional laptop (32.4 x 21.6 x 1.6 cm) with a 13.3-inch Full HD display and a weight of 1.3 kg. It offers according to the manufacturer up to 10 hours of autonomy. But the device has neither processor nor memory. It uses as engine a high-end smartphone, as powerful, sometimes even more than a PC.

For this, the Mirabook has a USB Type-C cable located at the keyboard and compatible with the DisplayPort standard. The PC uses Samsung's DeX and Huawei EMUI Desktop modes, similar to Microsoft's Continuum technology.

Miraxess is also working on Mirabook's compatibility with OXI, a modified version of Android designed by Auxens to display the content of its smartphone on a monitor. The computer also has the usual ports found on a portable machine: an HDMI output, two USB 3.0 ports, a jack and a microSD card reader.

The startup launched a crowdfunding campaign in June and the computer, sold for $ 249, was funded up to 200%. Delivery was scheduled for December 2017 but was postponed until May 2018, a delay that often occurs in the case of crowdfunding.

Your Smartphone is the ultimate pocket computer: Powerful, Connected and Practical. You could fully exploit its potential if it was not limited by its size and its interface.

The Mirabook unleashes the power of your Smartphone by turning it into a full-fledged Laptop with a large screen, a keyboard and a track pad.
Your Smartphone is now the only computer you need.

As consumers increasingly depend on their smartphone to organize their personal and professional lives, it is becoming evident that the traditional computer has been replaced by the smartphone as the main servant of our digital needs.

The PC market and worldwide deliveries keep declining: -5.7% in the 3rd quarter of 2016 and -3.3% for EMEA[1]. This can be explained among others by the emerging markets where People choose Smartphones over PCs.

Since its launch, the smartphone has been integrating more and more features. The smartphone is nowadays a real computer with a capacity that truly matches one of a conventional PC.

The Mirabook comes in the form of a full-fledged laptop, ultra-lightweight and customizable, with an aluminum finish. With a 13.3  inch display offering and a  1080p resolution, it is quiet and does not heat up. The battery is its greatest asset: it can be used continuously for up to 24 hours while recharging your Smartphone.

The extension is both simple to use and practical. It can be plugged in through the smartphone Type-C USB and instantly displays the mobile screen. The Smartphone centralizes all apps and data so there is no longer any need for data synchronization.

To boost the next mobile revolution, Miraxess offers a breakthrough innovation to fully harness the power of your smartphone.
